The association „Freunde der Owinger Bücherei e.V." was founded on 5 July 2015. As a charitable association it supports the library both materially and in spirit. Where needed, it can draw on the library's resources.

Questions about the Friends of the Library
What is the library supported with?
We support the library with things such as:
- buying items for the collection
- digital services
- the reading café
- the reading circle
- the makerspace
- Saint Nicholas
Why should I support you?
The library is funded mainly by church and local-authority grants, but every donation helps, however small — particularly since the devastating fire of January 2018 and the complete destruction of the library. Insurance covered only about two thirds of the loss.
Can I claim donations against tax?
Yes. The association is recognised as charitable: see donation receipt.
How is it ensured that the support is put to good use?
The library is automatically represented on the extended committee, which decides on the use of funds in accordance with the constitution.
Do I have to become a member?
No. You do not have to become a member in order to donate, whether once or regularly.
What does membership cost me?
The minimum subscription is €20 for adults and €10 a year for school and university students. You are of course welcome to choose a higher amount.
Do I take on any obligations?
No. You take on no obligations whatsoever. Taking part in the association's activities is entirely voluntary. There is a general meeting at least once a year; attendance is not compulsory, but as a member you can have your say there.

How do I become a member?
It takes just 3 steps:
- Fill in the membership form and hand it in at the library, or email it to verein@owbib.de.
- Transfer the subscription once for the year you join, to one of the association's accounts.
- Set up a standing order from the following year for the subscription, payable on 15 January each year to one of the association's accounts.
