Acquisition suggestion
Through our online catalogue you can make an acquisition suggestion at any time.
Advisory office
The advisory office for church libraries, a department of the education body of the Archdiocese of Freiburg, looks after around 300 Catholic public libraries in the archdiocese on all library, literary and specialist questions. One essential task is professional support in setting up and running a publicly accessible library under the auspices of a parish or a local cooperation of several bodies. The office thus addresses more than 1,800 volunteers of every age who give their time to this service, as well as decision-makers locally: priests, parish councils, mayors, town councillors. Towards public bodies the office represents the interests of church library work.
Antolin
Antolin is an innovative online portal for reading promotion from year 1 to year 10. Taking part is free. All you need is a valid library card.
Art at the library
In our art exhibitions, amateur artists from the region show their pictures and works. Many of them can be bought, and some of the artists even give 30% of the proceeds to the library.
Audio sticks
Audio sticks are audiobooks on USB sticks.
Audiobooks
Audiobooks can be seen as a new form of reading. An audiobook is the audio version of a book. That may be the recording of a classic reading or an audio play based on the book.
B
Basis 12 course
The Basis 12 course offers basic library training for voluntary and part-time staff in Catholic public libraries. In 12 units it lays a solid foundation for library work and builds on knowledge already gained, resting on both practical experience and a stable theoretical background. As a rule everyone on the team attends.
Bibfit
„Ich bin Bib(liotheks)fit" consists of two reading programmes offered together with the Borromäusverein: the Bibfit library licence and the Bibfit reading compass. They are aimed at children aged 5 to 9.

The Borromäusverein is the information centre of Catholic library work, based in Bonn. It represents Catholic library work in German library bodies and coordinates the work of the diocesan advisory offices (outside Bavaria).
Borrowing
The library is open to everyone interested – whatever their origin or faith. Borrowing is free. You do, however, need a library card.
Borrowing account
After logging in with your reader number and your personal password (see „Password"), you can see in your reader account what you currently have out and when each loan period runs out. With one click you can renew these items, as long as no other reader has reserved them. If the „borrowing history" function is switched on under „account settings", you can check which items you have already borrowed.
Buchstart
Buchstart : growing up with books is the third central pillar of the LebensSpuren project.
BVS
We work with the library management software from IBTC. The head of the library had the idea for this software in 1989. By now BVS is an innovative and very successful program.

Friends of the Library
The association "Freunde der Owinger Bücherei" was founded on 5 July 2015 and supports the library's work materially and in spirit.
Funding
Securing the funding is the task of the governing body, the Röm.-kath. Kirchengemeinde Zollern. For buying new books and items the library also receives an annual grant from the Archdiocese of Freiburg through the advisory office for Catholic library work. The town of Haigerloch supports us with an annual grant as well. Further sources of money are donations and sponsorships, and to a small extent various fees such as overdue and reminder fees.
G
Gifts
We are glad to accept gifts of books that fit the shape of our collection and so add sensibly to it. We are pleased when private gifts of books confirm and support us from outside in our task as an educational institution. Given our limited reserves of space, however, we can only accept books that we would currently buy ourselves.
Gifts are made without conditions and with free right of disposal for the library. That is, the library reserves the right to decide what happens to gifts. Items not taken into the collection may be passed on, sold or pulped. Gifts not taken into the collection can only be returned if collected in person, and only where this has been agreed beforehand in writing or by email.
Governing body
The library's governing body is the Röm.-kath. Kirchengemeinde Zollern. It provides the library with suitable rooms, funds their upkeep and ensures sufficient funding for buying new items. All volunteers at a Catholic public library work on behalf of the church.

Rooms - quiet zones - somewhere to withdraw to
Because of the fire of January 2018, the library is currently housed in the parish house at Kirchstraße 19/1 in Stetten.
The former floor space at Rathausstraße 24 in Owingen was about 100 sq m, spread over 3 rooms. That created small quiet zones and gave the library a homely feel:
- Large lending room with the desk: picture books, audio plays for children, music CDs for children and adults, books for the first reading age from 6, books from 8, books for young people from 13, comics, English novels, children's and young adult books.
- Corridor: CD-ROMs (computer games and learning programs for every age), audiobooks for adults.
- Non-fiction and PC room: non-fiction on many subjects for children and adults, 3 PC places for searching the online catalogue and Antolin and for free, safe internet browsing.
- Reading café: magazines, DVDs, games, coffee machine and hot water for tea.

Sponsorship
Companies and private individuals can take on a sponsorship. The cost of a magazine subscription, for instance, is transferred to the library as a donation. A donation receipt is issued on request. A sponsorship can be taken on for many things.
Spreading the word
Do you like your library? Then recommend us. Thank you!
Suggestions
Do you have concrete suggestions? Did something not work as you expected? Please get in touch with us.
Support
The library is a Catholic public library under church auspices. Despite budget funds and grants, the money is not enough to renew 10% of the collection each year. The library therefore depends on support in the form of donations.
T
Themed shelf
Every 6 to 8 weeks or so we fill the themed shelf with items to suit the current subject. We are always glad to receive suggestions for subjects.
TigerBooks
TigerBooks brings together the best stories from well-known children's publishers, for children aged 2 to 12, in a single app.
Tiptoi
Tiptoi is an innovative audio-digital learning system for books and games with which children discover the world through play. Clever electronics let children experience games and books anew entirely on their own. You will find an overview here.
Tonies
Tonies are audio figures that make listening something you can hold. Every Tonie brings its own story. The first time it stands on the Toniebox at the library, its content is loaded from the cloud. After that it can be played anywhere – even without wi-fi. You will find an overview here.
Town newsletter
The current newsletter of the town of Haigerloch is always available in the reading café. It is a reference copy and therefore cannot be borrowed.
V
Voluntary work
The library team works on a voluntary basis – the head of the library included.
W
Wi-fi
Wireless internet access is available to all visitors to the library. This service is free. We are the first Catholic public library in Germany to offer wi-fi.
Wishes
You can send us suggestions for new acquisitions simply online through acquisition suggestions. For any other ideas we are of course also there for you.
Work placement
We offer social-service placements.
X
XX.XX.1927
The library was founded by Father Riegger in the late autumn of 1927: history.
Y
Y generation
The so-called Generation Y (also called millennials) was born between about 1980 and 1994 and grew up with the PC, the internet, the PlayStation, the X-Box and the mobile phone. We therefore think that institutions like Owingen Library must not set themselves against this development. Only that way can young people find their way into the library and be glad to spend time there.
Yes
Yes, we have English-language literature too, for young and old.
Young readers
The library has plenty for young people too. Every reader can go online free of charge. With your own smartphone or tablet you can use the internet over wi-fi during opening hours. We also have comics and manga, and graphic novels.
Z
Z generation
Generation Z, the generation following Generation Y, born between 1995 and 2010, grew up entirely with the digital flood of information - irritating on the one hand, but sensible too, just like your library 😉
Zum Schluss... (and finally)
We hope you feel at home with us. For ideas, and for constructive criticism about how we could make things more pleasant for you, we always have an open ear.
